Het geheim van Toermalijn

In 1986 there was another opportunity for Mies Bouhuys and Fiep to work together for Bobo. Mies Bouhuys thought up Het geheim van Toermalijn. The story, about an imaginary animal wearing a chain with a precious stone, describes the animal’s wanderings; in the end, after many adventures, everything turns out all right. Fiep’s colour illustrations made Toermalijn into an endearing creature. Even today children themselves make their own imitations of
Toermalijn based on the illustrations, with pieces of fabric, buttons and knitting.

Fiep and Mies always remained close friends and worked together closely until Fiep’s death. In the autumn of 2004 Querido plans to publish adventures of Pim and Pom which have not previously been published in book form. After more than forty years, the drawings of Pim and Pom are apparently still so convincing, powerful and modern, that they will still be used on exercise books, postcards, autograph albums, etc.
