
On 3 February 2004 Fiep Westendorp died at the age of 87, at home in Amsterdam. Her death was caused by a bronchial infection and a coronary. The day after her death it was announced that on 26 January 2004 Sofia Maria Westendorp had been made an Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau by Royal Decree, a very high honour which was to have been presented to her on 18 February by Job Cohen, Mayor of Amsterdam, in his room at the Town Hall.
